Biotechnological processes: selected applications in the production and analysis of food, natural flavours, pharmaceuticals, and biomass transformation.
JULY 6, 2026
Overview
The INBIOWAL Webinar brings together a range of topics illustrating the broad application of biotechnology in pharmaceutical production, food and flavour science, biomolecular analysis, biomass valorization, and sustainable bioprocessing. Organized by CNR-SCITEC, the webinar highlights research approaches that connect fundamental scientific knowledge with industrial applications and emerging strategies for a more sustainable bioeconomy.
The programme covers chemo-enzymatic approaches to pharmaceutical synthesis, with selected examples from long-term research activity demonstrating the role of biocatalysis in the preparation of pharmaceutical compounds. Another area of focus is the biotechnological production of natural flavours, including selected industrial processes and applications for obtaining flavour compounds through biological methods.
Analytical approaches are represented by a presentation on NMR spectroscopy as a robust tool for the structural characterization of biomolecules, highlighting its relevance for understanding and identifying complex biological compounds.
The webinar also addresses the valorization of agri-food biomass, exploring approaches for converting waste streams into valuable fractions and products. Complementing this perspective, the programme considers sustainable and circular bioprocesses for biomass production, with particular attention to microalgae and microalgae–yeast systems and their potential within circular bioeconomy approaches.
Overall, the webinar provides an integrated perspective on how biotechnological processes, biocatalysis, advanced analytical techniques, and biomass valorization contribute to the development of innovative and sustainable solutions across the pharmaceutical, food, chemical, and bioresource sectors.
