Research Webinar: Effective Writing of Grant Applications
February 19-20, 2025
Workshop Overview
As a key component of the INBIOWAL project’s educational and professional development initiatives, the Research Webinar: Effective Writing of Grant Applications will be held on February 19, 2025 and led by the esteemed Prof. Mohammad Taherzadeh from the Swedish Centre for Resource Recovery (SCRR) at the University of Borås. This webinar will provide participants with essential strategies for crafting successful research grant proposals. Attendees will learn how to structure their applications, address key evaluation criteria, and effectively present their research objectives to maximize their chances of securing funding.
The webinar is designed to complement the Stationary Research Workshop: Rational Design of NADES for the Extraction of Natural Compounds, taking place at the Faculty of Food Technology and Biotechnology, University of Zagreb. Together, these events offer a holistic learning experience, equipping participants with both advanced scientific knowledge and the critical skill of grant writing to support their future research endeavors.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Participants will gain comprehensive and actionable insights into the following key areas:
- Proposal Structure:
Learn how to organize your grant application in a way that clearly and effectively communicates your research vision and objectives. This segment will cover the essential components of a strong proposal, such as the abstract, background, research methodology, expected outcomes, and budget justification. Participants will be guided on how to create a logical flow that makes the proposal easy for reviewers to follow and understand. - Evaluation Criteria:
Understand what funding bodies are looking for when reviewing grant applications. This part of the webinar will break down common evaluation criteria, such as the significance of the research, innovation, feasibility, and the qualifications of the research team. Attendees will learn how to tailor their proposals to meet these criteria, ensuring that each aspect of their application aligns with the funders’ expectations and priorities. - Presentation of Research Objectives:
Discover techniques for articulating your research goals in a compelling and persuasive manner. This segment will emphasize the importance of framing your objectives to highlight the potential impact and relevance of your work. Participants will be shown how to present their research in a way that not only engages reviewers but also convincingly demonstrates the value of the proposed project. Practical tips will be provided on writing with clarity, avoiding jargon, and using visuals or diagrams to strengthen the proposal’s message.
By the end of this webinar, attendees will be equipped with the knowledge and tools to write grant applications that stand out in competitive funding environments, giving them a stronger foundation for securing financial support for their research projects.
