Conducting Bioprocesses in Membrane Bioreactors,

Borås, SEPTEMBER 9-11, 2025

Workshop Overview

The Stationary Research Workshop hosted by the Swedish Centre for Resource Recovery (SCRR) at the University of Borås will focus on the design, implementation, and demonstration of membrane bioreactors for biotechnological applications in resource recovery. This hybrid event combines expert lectures, hands-on laboratory sessions, pilot-scale equipment demonstrations, and internal project coordination meetings. Tailored to both in-person and online participants, the workshop offers a dynamic setting for practical training, scientific exchange, and collaborative development within the INBIOWAL network.

WORKSHOP FORMAT

Open Sessions (Day 1 & Part of Day 3):
These sessions are open to all participants, both onsite and online, and offer a well-rounded overview of membrane bioreactor technology and its role in circular bioeconomy. The program includes expert lectures, lab tours with live demonstrations of bioprocess equipment, and interactive presentations on resource recovery strategies. Participants will also have access to an open online lecture on advanced pretreatment methods for organic waste valorization. These sessions aim to provide valuable knowledge, practical insight, and foster wider scientific dialogue across disciplines.

Closed Sessions (Days 2 & 3):
These sessions are reserved exclusively for INBIOWAL project participants and focus on consortium coordination and practical collaboration. Activities include strategic discussions on work packages and project budgeting, hands-on lab work involving membrane bioreactors, and partner meetings to evaluate research progress and plan future initiatives. These sessions foster deeper integration between project partners and support joint development of solutions aligned with the goals of the INBIOWAL network.
